Makin' a cake

Yay for cakes! Adam helped me put together this beauty. It was delicious, if I do say so myself, but definitely a little messy. In my next life, I think I'd like to come back as a pastry chef...

TV Land Awards Show

In late April, I traveled to LA for a conference. I arrived a day earlier than I needed to and spent the afternoon wandering around City Walk in Universal City. While I was in line at a smoothie shop, someone approached me asking if I wanted to attend the TV Land Awards Show. I had no idea what this was but had nothing better to do, so I followed the girl to the theater. I walked in wearing a white t-shirt and khaki shorts, reeking of sunscreen, and sat down in a row where everyone was either in a ballgown or tuxedo. The ushers seated me in the back row so that I wouldn't be noticed by the cameras. It was so funny to be included in an awards show, especially the way I was dressed, but I didn't care! I had a blast. Will Ferrell, Neil Patrick Harris, Charlie Sheen, Tim Allen, Christina Applegate, Amy Poehler, Teri Hatcher, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Dr. Phil, Reba McEntire and Matthew McConaughey were all presenters. Strange things happen to me in LA :)

Visitors

Adam and I are so very lucky. Our families have been able to visit us several times in Mass. and now in Kansas. My mom was the first to visit, then Kaitlin for her spring break, and then Adam's mom and sister, Catherine. Since we had only lived in Kansas a few months (and not really even that long given our travel schedules), we really didn't know what was around to do. Our families were such troopers -- my mom and I discovered a very bad Chinese restaurant, Kaitlin and I shopped around at the Plaza, and Sandi and Catherine were able to go to a Wizards game on a VERY cold day. They're the best. Here's a pic with Cat and some of the Wizards players.
